Top Gear has driven the all-new Mazda CX-5. Mazda may have come a bit late to the compact SUV market. It is to be seen as to how the car fares in the future. At over twenty one thousand British pounds, people will be finding it expensive but Top Gear has given good marks to its quality, though.
The car features an entirely new platform of a unique engine and a new gearbox. It is the first recipient of Mazda’s new ‘Kodo’ design language. Mazda is presenting this car as a showcase. The CX-5 looks much better than Mazda’s RX-8, the Mazda2 Supermini and even the face-lifted Mazda3.
CX5 has been crafted with sophistication and some interesting character lines. The car is big in stature. It is over four and a half meters long. There is plenty of room for people at the rear. The seats fold individually at the pull of a lever.
Mazda has come out with its new Skyactiv technology with the engine. This technology is complex while being interesting. The engine is 2.0-liter 165 bhp. The high compression ratio of 14:1 has helped to make sure that it is economical and impressive at 47.1 mpg. The engine lacks the torque of its turbo charged competitors.
The car is available with both manual and auto gearboxes. Both have six-speed transmission. The automatic transmission does not have a twin clutch but the shifts are quick, smooth and do not slur. Within its limits, Mazda has always been that bit more dynamically sophisticated than most of its mainstream rivals with its engines.
The first thing that will strike the consumers about the engine is that it is a very quiet one. There is not much humming. You can settle comfortably into a rhythm and enjoy the ride as the car tackles even poor roads with an impressive body control and its nineteen-inch wheels.
