Study: New cars are often stolen!

Car thief stolen vehicle
Not only the number of petrol thieves increases, but also the car theft is on the rise. Especially newer cars are often the victim, in the first half were 1,402 cars, from 0 to 3 years, in Holland.
That is 83 more than in the first half of 2011, an increase of 6.3%. The Foundation for Tackling Vehicle Crime (AVc) that published these figures, is worried about this increase. "More and more criminal organizations appear to have technical knowledge and equipment with which they can crack the electronic security of modern cars "says Guus Wesselink of AVC. "Car owners can no longer assume that their property is adequately protected against theft. Additional measures are needed to prevent theft".
AVc find that the car manufacturers have to significantly improve the security. But car owners who want to reduce the risk of theft would also be able to take themselves some anti-theft action. Home intrusions are frequently, and next is to stole car keys and then the car included. A good home security thus helps to prevent it.
Whether you simply purchase another brand of car. The probability that a Volkswagen is stolen: three times as high as the average of all brands. At Audi, Mercedes, Seat, BMW and Honda, the risk is twice as high as the average.
Criminals mainly focuses on recent cars of these brands because are much worthier. Of the older model years were fewer cars stolen. The total number of stolen cars was 5593, which is 2% lower than the first half of 2011. Of the stolen cars from 4 years and older was 47% recovered. In the recent cars models, that was only 32%.
