Rock-and-roll King was an avid for cars during his life and his fortune did not stop to buy just about anything he wanted. Here is the list of the most important cars bought by Elvis Presley on the "seen, liked, ordered" principle.
In early March, 1955, Elvis Presley bought his first Cadillac, a brand truly symbolic of America at the time. It was a Cadillac Feetwood Series 75, in 1954, painted white and pink, which also drew the nickname "Pink Cadillac".
The car did not last, however, too much - but not because of Elvis, who was a careful driver (even won the prize "Sage Driving Award" when he got the permit). Cadillac used by Elvis and other members of the band Blue Moon Boys, caught fire after only three months due to a fabric fault.
As Elvis said, was the most beautiful car he has had, especially since it was his first Cadillac. All the time, Elvis had bought a Ford Crown Victoria for his parents and he used it for a short period until he replaced his Cadillac with another Cadillac.
After the first Cadillac was consumed in flames, Elvis bought a Cadillac Fleetwood Series 60 model, built in 1955. Although the car was painted in blue with black Elvis ordered repainting in pink - a color made especially for him and called "Elvis Rose".
Neither with that Cadillac, Elvis did not escape from the events, since the fall of 1955 was involved in an accident having Scotty Moore driving it. Repairs have cost about $ 1,000, an amount large enough at the time.
Later, Elvis gave his mother the car, and "Pink Cadillac" has become a star, being placed prominently in the museum dedicated to Elvis Presley.
The strangest auto purchase Elvis Presley took place in the summer of 1956, when King was fascinated by a vehicle ... three wheels. It is a Messerschmitt KR-200 that was very small in size compared to "monsters" produced in Detroit (small three-wheeled vehicle mark the revival of the German car industry).
Elvis drove the car for a year, then made a "deal" with the owner of a clothing store, Bernard Lansky: in exchange for the vehicle, Elvis made a free round of shopping for hours. Then remained loyal customer, buying clothes from Bernard Lansky all his life.
Lansky kept the Messerschmitt to this day, refusing incredible offers of money from Elvis fans for the car with three wheels.
Also in the summer of 1956, Elvis Presley flew to Houston to buy a Cadillac Eldorado, which cost $ 10,000 at that time, being a luxury car.
After accidentally sprayed one wing of grapefruit juice, Elvis asked the car to be painted in that color and the interior was also customized as a bonus from the workshop of Jimmy Sanders.
Elvis has "escaped" from the Cadillac at the end of 1957, but in the meantime, he added at his collection a Lincoln Premiere hard-top coupe and a Ford Mark II Continental (Continental was then a luxury division of the from Ford).
While in Germany for military service, Elvis make a crush for the beautiful BMW 507 roadster, so he decided to buy one. For this turned to BMW Glocker dealer, who offered him a car driven even by the pilot Hans Stuck, who also participated in several racing in that model.
The car was given to nearly half the list price of a new model (3.750 USD to 7.160 USD). Unfortunately for him, the contract was not for sale, but to lease, so when leaved Germany had to return the car to the dealer.
Elvis liked so much the BMW 507, that in 1959 he bought such a red model - car that has in the back a romantic story, about Elvis's secret lover, Siegrid Schutz.
